POSITION: Behavior Support Classroom At-Risk Paraprofessional
LOCATION: Crawford AuSable School District, Grayling Elementary School
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, School Year
DESCRIPTION: Crawford AuSable School District is launching a specialized behavior support classroom at Grayling Elementary School designed to support students who benefit from targeted instruction in behavior regulation and social-emotional skill development. We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and student-centered paraprofessional to work alongside the Behavior Support Classroom Teacher in this intervention-based setting.
This role is essential to providing consistent, proactive support to students as they learn the skills needed for success in the general education classroom. The paraprofessional will assist with instruction, behavior support, data collection, and daily classroom operations while fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support students in developing self-regulation, social-emotional, and behavioral skills under the direction of the classroom teacher
- Implement behavior support plans and classroom management strategies consistently and positively
- Assist with small group and individual instruction aligned to students’ behavioral and social-emotional goals
- Support students during transitions, routines, and structured/unstructured times throughout the school day
- Collect and document behavior data, observations, and student progress as directed
- Help maintain an organized, structured, and calm classroom environment
- Collaborate and communicate with the classroom teacher, general education staff, and support personnel to ensure consistency across settings
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional learning related to behavior supports and student needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma required (associate degree or higher preferred)
- Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those with behavioral or social-emotional needs
- Ability to implement behavior support calmly, consistently, and respectfully
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
- Willingness to learn and apply evidence-based behavior and social-emotional strategies
- Ability to follow written behavior plans and maintain confidentiality
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with PBIS, MTSS, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, and/or SEL supports
- Previous experience working in special education or intervention-based classrooms
- Ability to collect basic behavior data and follow structured routines
