Wetland Ecologist

NES Ecological Services, a division of Robert E. Lee & Associates, Inc., is seeking a full-time, motivated Wetland Ecologist to join our natural resources consulting team in the Green Bay, Wisconsin area. This is an excellent opportunity to support meaningful environmental projects focused on wetland delineation, permitting, and habitat restoration throughout Wisconsin. As a Wetland Ecologist, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist in the identification, assessment, and documentation of wetlands, supporting permitting and restoration efforts in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will play an active role in both field and office tasks. On a typical day, you’ll:

  • Conduct wetland delineations in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Regional Supplements (Midwest, Northcentral, Northeast) and Wisconsin DNR guidelines.
  • Perform functional value assessments and contribute to mitigation planning and design.
  • Prepare wetland permit applications and related technical documentation.
  • Support ecological restoration projects, including native plantings, brush management, and prescribed burns.
  • Travel to various project sites and work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Botany, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or a related Natural Resource field.
  • 2–5+ years of relevant experience in wetland delineations, permitting, and restoration.
  • Strong understanding of wetland ecology, native Wisconsin/Midwestern plant and animal species, and hydric soil identification.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple active projects.
  • Familiarity with GPS equipment, GIS software, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Willingness to work extended hours in the field as needed and travel occasionally for project work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with restoration site implementation (e.g., mowing, planting, brush-cutting, prescribed burns).
  • Positive attitude and strong client-relations skills.
