Summer Education Intern
DESCRIPTION:
A full-time, seasonal position under the direction of the Program Coordinator and Curator of Animals. The purpose of the internship is to provide a hands-on learning opportunity and field related work experience in environmental education and interpretation. The Summer Education Intern will assist staff by leading camps, field trips, and other educational programs (both at the Sanctuary and off-site) as well as assisting with visitors and bird care.
EXAMPLES OF WORK EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY INTERN:
Education
- Assist with planning and executing field trips, presentations, tours, and other programs both at the Sanctuary and off-site
- Plan and lead summer camp groups for children 3-15 years old
Interpretation
- Answer phone inquiries by public
- Provide information for visitors
- Assist staff with species spotlights (requires adequate knowledge of species and ambassador’s “story”)
Property Management
- Assist with upkeep of Educational Building especially in relation to programs
- Daily sweeping and mopping (as needed) of floors
- Trash removal from buildings
- General Grounds Maintenance
Animal Care
- Daily cleaning and care of Education Animals
- Proper use of Educational Bird equipment (crates, leashes, etc.)
EXPECTATIONS:
A) Able to lift 50 pounds and physically able to negotiate trail system
B) Professional appearance, clean, neat and always respectful
C) Reliable and punctual and available to work weekends
D) Capable of completing tasks and projects unsupervised
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled at a college/ university
Valid Driver's License
Current Tetanus vaccine within 7 years
SCHEDULE: (May - August, Tuesday - Saturday)
Tuesday: 9:00am-3:00pm
Wednesday: 8:00am-4:00pm
Thursday: 8:00am-4:00pm
Friday: 8:00am-4:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am-6:30pm
STIPEND: $12/hour
