Summer Camp - Resident Counselor

Summer Camp Resident Counselor (Housing + Meals Provided)

Location: Stockholm, WI (near Red Wing, MN) - live-on-site
Dates: June 7 – August 10, 2026 
Pay: $400/week cash stipend + housing + all meals provided

Resident Counselors are more than caregivers - you’re the heart of each camper’s experience. You’ll shape unforgettable moments, lead activities, support growth, and help campers feel safe, seen, and valued in a positive, inclusive environment. 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead with heart: create a supportive, fun, enriching cabin community where camper well-being and growth come first 
  • Collaborate effectively: work closely with fellow staff to create a seamless camper experience and support camp goals 
  • Create magic: bring creativity and enthusiasm by planning and running engaging activities tailored to your campers 
  • Commit to safety & inclusion: maintain close supervision, follow safety guidelines, and build a welcoming space for everyone 
  • Model self-care: practice healthy self-care to bring steady energy and leadership to campers and staff 
  • Represent the Y well: uphold YMCA values and help strengthen Camp Pepin’s reputation through high standards of service 

Schedule Expectations 

This is a live-in role during camp weeks. You’ll be on-site with campers 24 hours/day while camp is operating, with a general camp schedule running 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Breaks/off time rotate throughout the day and week, but some situations may require attention at any time. 

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ 
  • First Aid/CPR required (training provided by camp); lifeguard preferred but not required (camp offers certification) 
  • Ability to supervise and engage youth in structured/unstructured settings with safety in mind 
  • Strong communication skills; ability to observe behavior and address concerns using behavior-management strategies 
  • Willingness to learn/lead camp activities; team-oriented and inclusive 
  • Must pass background check; possible motor vehicle check if driving is needed 
  • Work environment / physical demands (brief + transparent)

Outdoor, active job: prolonged standing/walking/hiking; ability to assist in emergencies; lift up to 50 lbs; exposure to sun/heat and critters (bugs, bats, etc.).
