Position Summary
NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME.
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, promotes and maintains civil order; enforces laws and ordinances; conducts investigations; issues citations and makes arrests; patrols assigned area to provide security; responds to alarm calls; prepares detailed reports concerning crimes and incidents; interviews victims and witnesses; maintains equipment in functional condition; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with the College community and community-at-large. Provide a secure environment through crime prevention and control, traffic and parking
supervision, disaster coordination, maintenance of public order, and other related services. The schedule for this position is flexible and may require availability during both daytime and evening hours.
Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 04: ($41,994-$57,251), which is based on years of directly related full-time experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Other duties may be assigned by the CVCC Chief of Police, Dean of Students and Campus Services, or the President.
- Provides foot and vehicular patrol of the campus and makes scheduled tours of buildings and grounds to ensure buildings and persons are secure.
- Responds to and investigates incidents on campus, including but not limited to motor vehicle accidents or criminal or College violations.
- Assists with conducting misdemeanor and/or felony investigations, including but not limited to, interviewing victims, suspects, and offenders, preparing photo lineups, collecting evidence, and preparing case files.
- Provides security to the College community, as requested, including but not limited to escorting personnel to vehicles late at night or acting as a witness as requested.
- Enforces criminal and traffic laws, makes arrests, and issues summons as required.
- Keeps the Police Chief and College administration updated on situations and developments involving the safety and security of the College.
- Secure College buildings.
- Issue tickets for parking violations.
- Complete detailed, clear, and concise incident reports immediately following an incident.
- Logs all activities in the daily log register.
- Inspects all areas for safety hazards and reports issues and submits maintenance orders as needed.
- Investigates all adverse campus conditions and situations.
- Monitors events on campus to ensure security and safety for the students, participants, and attendees, and enforces adherence to College policies.
- Locks and unlocks offices and buildings as requested and checks buildings and hallways, after hours, for signs of unusual activity.
- Transport mail to the post office when requested by the administration.
- Transport bank deposits
- for the College Business Office.
- Assist with electronic emergency notifications to the campus community.
- Provide escorts and assistance with campus visitors as directed.
- Detect and report hazardous conditions, including but not limited to potholes, light outages, obstructions, etc.
- Completes twelve hours of continuing education annually as required by APOST and other training as designated by the Chief of Police.
- Recertifies firearms range annually.
- Maintains availability to work all shifts, including day, evening, night, and weekends.
- Collects and maintains lost and found properly.
- Appears in court and testifies as required.
- Assists and participates in emergency training, drills, and exercises.
- Monitors security cameras.
- Serves as game day administrator for athletic events and provides
security for athletic competitions, college events,
and activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.
- Maintains confidentiality of identified sensitive information and of departmental information.
- Remains current in and enhances professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
- Interacts with and serve diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Adheres to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees.
- Maintains appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies and assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Recruits potential students to the College and assist in retention efforts.
- Represents the institution in a positive manner.
- Demonstrates physical fitness and agility.
- Serves on College and community committees as assigned.
- Participates in the College's strategic planning and strategic enrollment management planning processes.
- Assists with training for college personnel on matters of safety and security.
- Assists in the development of plans and procedures for campus security, emergency response, and other related matters.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of two (2) years of employment experience as a police officer required
- Valid Alabama Peace Officers Standard and Training Commission (APOST) Minimum Standards Certificate or ability to achieve a lateral transfer from APOST required
- Must have the ability to qualify with a personal firearm and obtain a concealed carry license within first month of employment
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License required and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
- Must have the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within the first month of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited post-secondary institution.
