Summer Camp Counselor

About Camp: Camp T on Birch Lake is a traditional overnight summer camp serving youth ages 6 - 16. For more than a century, we’ve created a place where campers can unplug, explore the outdoors, build confidence, make friends, and have unforgettable fun. Our wide-ranging programs include water sports, archery, nature exploration, arts and crafts, drama, land sports, science and STEM, cooking, photography, team building, and more.

Position Overview: Camp Counselors are the heart of Camp T. Counselors live and work with a cabin group, lead activities, and help create a safe, inclusive, and energetic camp community. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that requires energy, teamwork, flexibility, and a passion for making a positive impact on youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a cabin group of campers, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and positive experience
  • Lead or assist with daily camp activities such as water sports, archery, nature, crafts, drama, sports, STEM, and other program areas
  • Foster an inclusive environment where all campers feel respected, supported, and encouraged to participate
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating responsibility, patience, empathy, and good judgment
  • Communicate effectively with campers, co-counselors, and leadership staff
  • Follow all safety procedures and respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old by the start of employment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and helping them grow
  • Ability to live and work in a cooperative, fast-paced, outdoor environment
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to take initiative and jump into a variety of tasks
  • Previous experience working with youth (camp, after-school programs, coaching, etc.) is a plus but not required
  • Certifications such as lifeguarding, CPR/first aid, or activity-specific skills are helpful but not required; training is provided
