The Landscape Evolution and Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studies how landscapes evolve and change due to environmental and anthropogenic drivers. Much of the lab’s work involves dating sediments or artifacts with luminescence dating methods.

As a Geology Research Technician, you will:

  • Process sediment samples and analyze sediment and soil samples in the laboratory. Analyses will include dating sediments with optically-stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating and particle size analysis of samples using a laser diffraction particle size analyzer.
  • Subsample sediment and soil cores for analysis.
  • Assist with generating materials for publications, including geologic maps and other manuscripts.


This position is part-time, 20 hours per week. Within the UNL system, this position is classified as a Research Technician III.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related field plus 1 year experience in a research laboratory. Additional years of completed, relevant education or experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience in a research laboratory and using analytical equipment.
  • Experience with basic word processing and use of spreadsheets.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and laboratory procedures.

Posted Salary  $20.50/hr minimum
