Foster Care Worker Responsibilities & Duties
- Assess the needs of children entering the foster care system.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Coordinate with biological families, foster families, and other service providers.
- Conduct home visits to monitor the child's progress and well-being.
- Maintain detailed case notes and documentation.
- Attend court hearings and provide testimony regarding the child's situation.
- Facilitate reunification efforts with biological families when appropriate.
- Work with adoption agencies in cases where adoption is the goal.
- Collaborate with schools and medical providers to ensure comprehensive care for the child.
- Respond to crisis situations and provide intervention.
Foster Care Worker Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal Justice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations calmly and effectively.
- Experience working with children or families.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
