Construction Trades Teacher

  Position: Construction Trades, Wood Shop, CTE Teacher (7-12)

 

Reports To: Building Principal

 

Salary Schedule: Per Master Agreement

 

Job Summary:

Maple Valley Schools is seeking a dynamic and skilled Woods / Construction Trades Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team. The successful candidate will provide instruction in woodworking, carpentry, and general construction trades to high school students, preparing them for both college and careers in the skilled trades industry.

Required:

  • Valid MI Teaching License or CTE Authorization
  • Background in woodworking, carpentry, welding, or related construction fields
  • Strong knowledge of shop safety and OSHA standards (or be willing to take OSHA training)
  • Ability to manage and maintain tools, equipment, and shop materials

  Preferred:

  • Prior teaching or training experience
  • Industry certification (e.g., OSHA 10/30, NCCER, etc.)
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Familiarity with student IEPs and accommodations (if applicable)

  Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in woodworking, cabinet making, construction techniques, blueprint reading, tool safety, and related topics.
  • Design and implement engaging, hands-on projects aligned with industry standards and curriculum.
  • Maintain a safe and organized shop environment.
  • Supervise student use of hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
  • Promote career exploration and workforce readiness in the trades.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, advisory committees, and industry partners to align instruction with current industry practices.
  • Support students in CTE-related organizations and competitions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain CTE credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to keep confidentiality in regards to the Family Privacy Act
  • Provide an educational program that meets the educational needs of each student in the teacher's area of responsibility
  • Provide instruction consistent with District and school expectations and which meets the educational needs of all students assigned to the teacher
  • Communicate with students, parents, administrators and other staff members in a manner which is consistent with District and school expectations
  • Maintain student records, organize resources and foster a learning environment which are consistent with District and school expectations, while setting high expectations for student learning.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding in consistent use of data to monitor student growth, inform instruction and develop necessary interventions
  • Ability to properly utilize tools and equipment necessary in providing instruction to students. The incumbent is also required to properly operate required office equipment and software.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement instruction and assessment to measure student growth
  • Create a caring and nurturing learning environment that allows for emotional and social growth for all learners
