Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is seeking to hire a Water Systems Operator.  This Water Systems Operator will be responsible for performing critical procedures and job duties related to the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and supporting equipment specific to the site.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

    • Monday - Friday
    • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Possession of a Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator license or a Water Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training Class III certificate as required by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class are required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications including possession of the State of Connecticut Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator license in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Public Health.
  • Incumbents in this class who possess the Water Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training Class III certificate in accordance with the regulations of the Connecticut Department of Public Health, must obtain full operator status and maintain the Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator license no later than one (1) year from the date of appointment to the Water Systems Operator class.
  • NOTE: New employees hired with the Operator-in-Training Class III certificate must successfully complete one (1) year of training and have satisfactory work performance, as determined by the Water Systems Superintendent, in order to attain permanent status as a Class III Operator.
  • Incumbents in this class must obtain and maintain a Class I Water Distribution System Operator license in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Public Health within two (2) years of appointment.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain specific education and/or experience to meet various certification requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, loud and potentially dangerous machinery, working with chemicals and exposure to toxic fumes and may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and work in uncomfortable positions.
