Salary: $16/hour
Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community organization that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Since its founding, Trees Atlanta’s goals have been to plant new trees, conserve existing trees, replace those lost to development, and educate the public about the benefits of a healthy urban canopy. To date, Trees Atlanta has planted and cared for over 170,000 trees across metro Atlanta, becoming one of the most respected environmental nonprofits in the region.
Position Overview
Trees Atlanta is seeking an enthusiastic and independently-organized individual to support the successful delivery of our Environmental Education Summer Camp. This role serves as a key assistant and collaborator to the Camp Lead, helping camp operations to run smoothly and safely throughout the summer.
The Camp Support Lead will provide logistical and material support to the Camp Lead and camp staff team, stepping into a camp leader role as needed. This position is ideal for college students or recent graduates (or equivalent) with prior experience in youth programs, camp settings, and outdoor education who are excited to contribute to a mission-driven environmental organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Support Camp Operations and Logistics
Work closely with the Camp Lead to ensure smooth daily camp operations
Prepare and organize camp materials, activity supplies, and equipment before and during each camp session
Facilitate the gathering, distribution, and return of camp supplies
Manage logistical details such as food deliveries and guest presenter coordination
Assist in creating and maintaining organized systems for camp materials and supplies
Staff and Program Support
Serve as a reliable backup for summer staff when coverage is needed (this may include leading activities or supporting/leading a group for some or all of a camp day)
Assist with daily setup, transitions, and cleanup of camp spaces
Support staff team in implementing activities, ensuring smooth group transitions, and helping maintain a positive, inclusive environment for all campers
Collaborate with Camp Lead on creative camp projects such as camper awards, special theme days, and staff celebrations/appreciation
Health, Safety, and First Aid
Serve as the designated first aid and medical support contact for camp, responding to minor injuries or health needs as needed (First Aid/CPR training provided)
Maintain and organize camp first aid kits and bike maintenance kits
Administrative and Communication Support
Assist Education Staff with check-in/check-out procedures and attendance tracking as needed
Help maintain daily schedules and group assignments/projects for camp operations
Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, campers, and families as needed
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of 1 year experience working with children (in camp, classroom, or outdoor settings), 2+ years preferred
Demonstrated ability to stay organized and handle multiple responsibilities at once.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Enthusiasm for environmental education, outdoor learning, and Trees Atlanta’s mission.
Knowledge of ecology, environmental science, botany, or outdoor education preferred
Physical Requirements
Must be capable of being very active outdoors in summer weather, including sun, heat, rain, and exposure to wildlife.
Must be a confident and safe bike rider, able to ride several miles each day as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. repetitively.
The Camp Support Lead will report to work at the Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse (825 Warner Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30310) and will work in various locations in and around the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum, and potentially in venues hosted by partner organizations during off-site field trips (rising 4th-6th grade only). Counselors are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse.
