We’re a Christian nonprofit organization that has spent the past 50 years equipping people to care for others with excellence.

We’re best known for Stephen Ministry, our lay caregiving ministry system used in over 14,000 churches from over 190 Christian denominations around the world. We also produce books, courses, and other resources on topics such as grief, empathy, cancer, assertiveness, and leadership.

An exciting new initiative for Stephen Ministries is helping congregations and other organizations play a key role in combating the mental health crisis by preventing mental distress and promoting mental health and well-being.

What We’re Looking For

An internship at Stephen Ministries is an opportunity to be involved in meaningful work as a valued member of a kind, collaborative, and Christ-centered team working together to build a more caring world.

Building a more caring world requires a great team. That’s why, at Stephen Ministries, we’re looking for college students who want a paid internship experience that prepares them for a fulfilling and meaningful career with Stephen Ministries and beyond. 

We’re on the lookout for people who are passionate about our mission, a good fit for our team, and driven to succeed. We work with each intern to craft a role that matches their unique gifts, skills, and interests with the needs and goals of our organization. In addition, every intern is assigned a personal mentor from among Stephen Ministries’ senior staff.

Internship opportunities are available year-round for students who have completed at least one year of college. Interns receive our basic customer service training, but they may also:

• Participate in adult online training sessions
• Study and discuss topics like leadership, assertiveness, empathy, and management with senior staff members
• Participate in developing and deploying marketing materials and campaigns
• Have opportunities to write and edit internal and programmatic documents and other materials
• Sit in on meetings with senior staff members

Summer internships usually last 8-12 weeks, while those during the school year vary based on the student’s availability. All internships are paid and in-person at the Stephen Ministries Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
