Development Internship
Groundwork Indy is a youth focused environmental nonprofit in Indianapolis. We partner with teens and young adults to improve neighborhoods through real projects in parks, greenways, brownfields, and community spaces. Our programs Green Team and GroundCorp build skills, confidence, and career pathways while delivering visible impact for our city.
Program overview
Groundwork Indy is seeking a motivated Development Intern. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, detail oriented, proactive, flexible, and interested in nonprofit management and community impact. This internship offers an introduction to fundraising and operations, including prospect research, communications, events, and information management. A minimum of 15 hours each week is required.
Specific duties
• Research current and prospective funders to identify alignment with Groundwork Indy priorities
• Support accurate data entry and data quality in our CRM to strengthen donor relations and reporting
• Draft, edit, and send donor acknowledgements and stewardship messages
• Help write short impact stories, case statements, and grant language that highlight program results
• Assist with planning and day of support for development events and site visits
• Identify partnership opportunities with local businesses, civic groups, and universities
• Complete other tasks as assigned in support of the development team
Qualifications and experience
• Enrolled in a bachelor or master program or a recent graduate
• Strong organization and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team and independently
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Familiarity with online prospect research tools and a CRM such as Salesforce or a similar platform preferred but not required
• Commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Schedule and benefits
• Minimum 10 hours each week with some flexibility for class schedules
• Unpaid internship with meaningful professional experience, mentorship, and networking
