Overview

The Source of Hope is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Article Writer Emerging Professional to help tell the stories that shape our mission. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys listening, interviewing, and transforming everyday moments into meaningful narratives. The Article Writer will record conversations with leadership, take “talk-to” notes, and craft articles for our website, newsletter, and press/blog page.

This position provides hands-on experience in storytelling, digital publishing, and media collaboration, perfect for students interested in writing, communications, or journalism.

Compensation

This is an unpaid Emerging Professional internship offering mentorship, professional writing experience, and opportunities to build a strong portfolio.

Schedule

• Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  
   
• Thursday: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
  
   
• Monthly Volunteering Event: Fourth Saturday, 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  
   
• Up to 20 hours per week
  
   

Emerging Professional Program

The Source of Hope’s Emerging Professional Program equips students and young adults with leadership and professional communication skills through real-world experience. Participants receive mentorship and contribute directly to storytelling projects that amplify community voices and inspire positive change.

Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  
   
• Excellent listening and note-taking ability
  
   
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  
   
• Proficient in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
  
   
• Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven
  
   
• Creative thinker who can translate interviews and events into engaging articles
  
   
• Familiarity with website content management (WordPress or similar) preferred
  
   
• Basic understanding of SEO and digital publishing best practices is a plus
  
   

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
  
   
• Currently enrolled in college and pursuing or interested in Communications, Journalism, English, or related fields
  
   
• Writing samples or published work preferred but not required
  
   

Responsibilities

• Record conversations and interviews with leadership for story development
  
   
• Write clear, compelling articles for web and newsletter publication
  
   
• Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and tone consistency
  
   
• Collaborate with graphic designers and social media teams to enhance articles with visuals
  
   
• Assist with uploading and formatting articles on the website (WordPress)
  
   
• Research background information to provide context and accuracy in stories
  
   
• Track deadlines and ensure content delivery on schedule
  
   
• Participate in Serving Hope community events (4th Saturday, 6 AM – 1 PM)
