Youth Counselor
What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):
High School Diploma or equivalent plus One (1) year experience with seriously emotionally disturbed children, or Two (2) years’ experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adults.
OR – BA/BS Degree
How you will make a difference (job overview):
The Youth Counselor is the treatment team member who is responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the adolescents through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Program Director, Facility Manager and Shift Lead; some tasks are accomplished independently. Provide day-to-day supervision, ensure safety and care for children individually, while in school and in groups. Promote and assist adolescents with self-help skills in the areas of eating, hygiene, and grooming, handling individual problems and other activities. Models and supports positive youth development and positive behavioral self-management through praise, attention, and use of behavioral incentive system. Encourages adolescents’ interaction and socialization with other peers, providing feedback to adolescents on appropriate behavior. Participate in Pro-Act crisis intervention as required. Note children’s progress in daily progress notes.
Division/Program Overview:
A comprehensive mental health in patient residential facility for adolescents
Serving up to 60 adolescents (ranging from ages 12-17) statewide
Intensive residential services dedicated to serving clients with serious mental health problems with the highest dignity and quality of services since 1988
Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility, Community Treatment Facility and Non-Public High School – 24/7 locked facility
Multidisciplinary Mental Health Services, Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services, and Intensive Day Treatment Program
