*We are seeking three qualified candidates for Community Care Paramedic role. This will be 12-hour shifts, 2-on, 2-off, 3-on, 2-off, 2-on, 3-off*
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position provides prompt, compassionate, and clinically excellent out-of-hospital emergency medical care to the sick and injured citizens of, and visitors to, Burke County. This position operates emergency vehicles and is responsible for biomedical and other equipment necessary to provide patient and situational assessment, treatment, and transport in an emergency setting. Position requires 12-hour, rotating shifts each workweek, and also requires mandatory overtime.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To successfully perform this position, an individual must be able to perform the following:
- Responds to emergency situations in a prompt, compassionate, and clinically excellent manner adapting, problem solving, and multi-tasking as necessary; examines, screens, treats, and coordinates health services for patients; provides post-hospital release follow up care including, but not limited to, monitoring medication, dressing changes, and checking vital signs
- Assesses the nature and extent of an illness or injury by obtaining relevant information from the patient, family, caretakers, bystanders, others, and surroundings, expertly providing appropriate treatment
- Performs patient care utilizing equipment and biomedical supplies
- Maintains the inventory and supplies necessary for providing emergency medical services
- Observes, records, and reports the patient's conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and incidents to their assigned physician
- Maintains, cleans, and inspects equipment, vehicles, including ambulances and facilities; decontaminates and disinfects equipment and vehicles after each patient encounter
- Interacts with and assists the general public in a respectful manner via telephone, email, or in person to provide support, information, and assistance with emergency medical services and health education
- Works while wearing personal protective equipment ("PPE") on all requests for services and wears additional PPE as necessary
- Maintains the proper certifications and licenses necessary to perform the duties of this position
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing emergency medical services providing the necessary knowledge and skill to perform the duties of this position
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (UPON HIRE, UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED):
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Certified Paramedic
- ACLS, BCLS, and PALS Certifications
- Community Paramedic Certification (within 1 year of hire)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, AND OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:
- Standard vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses
- Occasionally spends time sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and tasting or smelling
- Routinely lifts more than one hundred (100) pounds
- Routinely spends time standing and walking
- Frequently lifts up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Frequently spends time speaking or hearing, using hands or fingers to handle, feel, type, or text, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and engaging in repetitive motions
- Working in situations without following safety measures and not wearing appropriate personal protective equipment ("PPE") may result in situations that could result in incapacitating accidents or, on occasion, loss of life
- Working conditions may include:
- Individuals are occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and breathing apparatus
- Individuals occasionally work in high, precarious places
- Individuals routinely work near moving mechanical parts
- Individuals are routinely exposed to outdoor weather conditions and vibrations
- Individuals are frequently exposed to bloodborne pathogens
- Subjected to serious mental effort and potential stressful situations during day-to-day operations
- Frequently subjected to loud noises
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proficient in spoken and written English
- Ability to express and exchange ideas through verbal communication
- Ability to convey detailed instructions loudly, accurately, and/or quickly
- Ability to receive detailed instructions or information through verbal communication
- Ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data
- Ability to engage in visual inspections involving small parts
- Ability to use measuring devices
- Ability to fabricate or assemble parts within arm's length
- Ability to operate and use systems, technologies, motor vehicles (including ambulances), and machines required to perform duties of this position
- Ability to observe general surroundings and activities
- Ability to follow detailed guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrates verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of Community Paramedicine and PORT programs.
