Zoning Officer
The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for the regular, full-time position of Zoning Officer in the Department of Planning & Engineering. Under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Engineering, the Zoning Officer will serve as an administrative officer for the Zoning Board. Responsibilities include:
- Perform technical and professional work in the interpretation, drafting, and enforcement of Township zoning laws, ordinances, rules, Master Plan elements, and regulations.
- Review and sign off on building permits for zoning compliance and licenses for the Clerk’s office.
- Issue Zoning permits for fences, sheds, impervious surfaces, and signs.
- Respond to letters of intent and OPRA requests.
- Handles inquiries from the public on development and zoning matters.
- Attendance at evening Zoning Board Meetings.
- Related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must be knowledgeable of the principles, practices and techniques of municipal zoning, site planning and land use procedures; knowledgeable of local, state and federal laws and other regulations governing land use and zoning; general knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of zoning laws and ordinances; and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Experience & Experience: Two years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or related field; or four years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
Licensing & Certification: Valid NJ Drivers license and a New jersey Zoning Certification,
