Information Technology Specialist Intern

The Premier College Intern Program (PCIP) is a 10-12 week paid summer internship traditionally accomplished the summer before entering your senior year. You will intern during the summer, then return to school to finish your degree. Upon successful completion of the program and if you feel the Air Force Civilian Service is a good fit for your career, you will have the opportunity to be non-competitively converted into the PAQ or COP recent graduate program. You must be enrolled full-time with at least 60 credit hours from a non-profit institution. 

As an AFCS Cyber Professional, you'll be exposed to state-of-the-art technology and work on projects your counterparts in the private sector only dream about. Supporting the most advanced Air Force in the world, our employees are responsible for preventing, detecting and repelling cyber-attacks. Information Technology specialist with a focus in cyber security and software development to ensure the integrity of computer networks and online communications. From programming to hardware, these experts keep our systems and our information safe. The Air Force relies heavily on advanced computer and software systems, so it is paramount to keep those systems safe. It’s the job of Information Technology specialists to have knowledge in software systems, database management and supporting cybersecurity. These experts enhance our capabilities and provide us with the best and most secure systems so we can stay ahead of the curve in everything we do.

The work environment typically varies by location. When first hired, Cyber employees are generally assigned to a team. Some locations have many different missions and systems that are supported and usually there is a team that supports each system or mission. Every team has a project, and the tasks are divided up among the team members. So, you will not only get a sense of working with a team, but you also have some things that will be solely yours. You always have a Lead, so you never have to feel as if you are working completely alone. Your lead serves as someone you can go to with any questions. 

 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must be enrolled full-time at the time of the offer (fall 2025) and pursing a bachelor’s degree or higher
    • Must enroll full-time for Spring 2026
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.95 or higher
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Must have completed HireVue application via afintern.com (IAW Merit Hiring)
  • Graduate Degree candidates: must be half-way through with their master’s degree by start date and must be enrolled full-time.
