Administrative Assistant / Law Library Assistant

About the Position

The Law Library seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Administrative Assistant (“Law Library Assistant”) to provide administrative and office support for the library’s day-to-day operations. This position works under the supervision of the Law Librarian with County Administrative Office (CAO) management. 

Duties for this position include:

  • Significant customer service to the public
  • Basic legal reference assistance to attorney and non-attorney patrons
  • Book circulation & shelving duties
  • Technical processing of print materials & cataloging tasks as assigned
  • Website development and social media outreach
  • Financial recordkeeping and knowledge base maintenance

About the Division

The Law Library provides the following services and materials:

  • Legal reference and research assistance
  • Local referrals and resources
  • Circulation of materials to attorneys
  • Comprehensive print collection with particular emphasis on Oregon law, and specialized legal databases
  • Continuing Legal Education materials and other printed matter to Oregon State Bar-licensed attorneys and Oregon-licensed private investigators.
  • Databases – our most popular databases include:
    1. Westlaw
    2. Lexis Advance
    3. Heinonline
    4. National Consumer Law Center
    5. Nolo Legal Self-Help Books & Resources
    6. BarBooks (from the Oregon State Bar)

Schedule: 20 hours per week between Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by course work in business, personnel or public administration or a related field.

Experience:

  • Three years of responsible experience providing complex secretarial or administrative support to management;
  • or an equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
