Member Engagement Intern

Description

This internship aligns with the fall-semester schedule. Specific dates can be flexible based on school schedule/program requirements.  Opportunities are available at both our David D. Hunting YMCA and the Mary Free Bed YMCA.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Membership internship offers valuable exposure to nonprofit operations while providing opportunities to develop skills in customer service, marketing, basic project management, and professional development. This role will support our Member Engagement Director and membership team in delivery a welcoming, engaging and high-quality experience for YMCA members. The Membership Intern will work on a variety of projects and initiatives that support member engagement, enhance program delivery, and contribute to a positive and inclusive community environment at the YMCA.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assist with day-to-day membership operations and provide outstanding customer service at the front desk.
  • Help plan and implement member engagement initiatives and special events to foster a welcoming environment.
  • Assist with outreach phone calls to prospective and current members, helping to build relationships and promote engagement.
  • Support data entry, surveys, and other reporting efforts to improve member services and track outcomes.
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing materials such as flyers and emails to promote programs and events.
  • Assist with basic project management tasks, including tracking deadlines, coordinating with team members, and maintaining project documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings, outreach events, and staff trainings.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to build skills relevant to nonprofit work, customer service, and leadership.
  • Provide feedback and ideas to enhance membership experience and program delivery.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and community-focused atmosphere by modeling the YMCA’s core values.
  • Take on special projects aligned with intern’s skills, interests, and career goals as assigned.

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This is an unpaid position. Interns are eligible for a free YMCA membership for the duration of the internship.

  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications
  • Enthusiastic about member engagement and working in a mission-driven environment
