Compliance Assistant- Intern (student on-campus)

Seattle Colleges District Office is looking to hire a current student for a Compliance Assistant position for the Human Resources - Compliance Department.

Hourly Wage for this position is $20.76/ hour.

This opportunity is open until filled, with the first review of materials on Monday, July 21st, 2025

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Compliance, the Compliance Intern will assist in records filing, redacting public disclosure requests, digitizing records, compiling data, and assisting with compliance related functions for the District.

This position is part-time, working for up to 19 hours per week.

Work location: Hybrid; District Office/Siegal (1500 Harvard Ave) & Telework

One day a week in office.

What you will be working on:

  • Assist in the response to requests for public records in compliance with the Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). 
  • Review responsive records for exempt information and apply redactions prior to release.
  • Compile data or records in a comprehensive manner under the direction of the Director of Compliance.
  • Assist in transferring files between systems and sites. 
  • Work closely with the Compliance Team and other stakeholders to audit and review systems and records management portals.

This position is open to students at Seattle Central College, North Seattle College, or South Seattle College, who must be enrolled by the start date (Fall 2025). We highly encourage students with an interest in law, government, communications or business to apply. 

  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with the ability to cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Strong commitment to ethics and legal compliance.
  • Experience with handling confidential documents. Experience with legal documentation is preferred, but not required.
  • Intermediate computer literacy; experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

 

Educational Outcomes:

  • Learn current laws surrounding public records, exemptions, and FERPA
  • Develop confidential records handling skills
  • Gain experience with complex data entry and analytics 
  • Practice communication skills for a variety of audiences including students, staff, and members of the community
  • Develop skills in working collaboratively to complete requests
  • Gain experience working with several file management systems and assisting with complex data auditing tasks.
