Water Resource Control Engineer

If this position is filled in Richmond, this position is entitled to a $250.00 pay differential per month based on Bargaining Unit and/or work location.

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Drinking Water has an opening for a Water Resource Control Engineer in its Regulatory Development Unit. The position will be filled at one of the following Division of Drinking Water field office locations:

Duties:
This Water Resource Control Engineer (WRCE) position supports California’s implementation of the state and federal Safe Drinking Water Acts by using engineering knowledge and expertise to develop regulations, including maximum contaminant levels, to ensure that water delivered by California public water systems is at all times pure, wholesome, and potable. Under the close supervision to general direction of a Senior Water Resource Control Engineer in the Regulatory Development Unit, the incumbent writes final reports, regulations, and guidance documents; performs environmental analyses, research, surveys, investigations, and studies; prepares non-routine correspondence; responds to public inquiries; and other related work. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop new and revised California drinking water standards, including maximum contaminant levels; conduct engineering evaluations and related research, including treatment feasibility via various technologies; evaluate and summarize cost and job impacts and public health and other benefits associated with proposed regulations; confer with and present to scientists and engineers from government, universities, public and private research groups, and private industry; develop expertise in the areas of scientific, public health, and environmental engineering matters involving chemistry, microbiology, analytical methods, and diseases and health effects relevant to pathogenic organisms and toxic chemicals; work cooperatively with Division of Drinking Water staff, other agencies, and stakeholders to develop technical comments and recommendations in response to proposed federal standards; provide guidance and assistance to water systems, district staff, management, and other stakeholders on regulation implementation; perform a variety of engineering work relating to public water systems, including on-site inspections, records review, data collection and analysis, and report preparation.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
