Salary: $6,705.00 - $9,021.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:
- Serving as Principal Investigator on grants within the program’s purview, the position is responsible for budget and proposal development and submittal, award negotiations, grant activities and tracking, and reporting.
- Working collaboratively within the team, across other programs in the Survey, and with external partners to oversee the design of a comprehensive subsurface database, using best practices and following agency and Survey standards, that will meet current and future needs.
- Oversees the migration of existing subsurface data into the new database structure.
- Establishes procedures and negotiates timelines for future updates of the database from other programs across the Survey.
- Collaborates with other Survey programs to identify areas with deficient or needed subsurface data for future inclusion, either through literature search or new data gathering.
- Works collaboratively to design, implement, and oversee the maintenance of the subsurface database, including determining the appropriate storage, format, services, and data dissemination scheme to meet legislative, agency, and public requirements.
- Providing technical expertise to Survey staff data stewards in facilitating the high-level implementation of the subsurface database.
- Leads and conducts research projects through grants or other funding to assess geologic carbon sequestration or underground hydrogen storage potential by integrating literature, historical records, and new field data collection into interpretations and recommendations to support economic potential and risk analyses, and publishes the research results.
- Identifies key policies, laws, and rules affecting decision-making affecting Program activities.
- Participates in supervisor meetings, DNR all-leader meetings, and state-mandated trainings to ensure situational awareness of Survey and Agency activities and plans, along with the ability to inform staff of requirements or upcoming changes.
- Implements processes for networking and outreach to: 1) ensure consistent delivery of new subsurface information and materials from external parties, including consulting firms and local jurisdictions; and 2) encourage widespread awareness around access to subsurface information by interested parties.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree with major study in geology or a closely related field AND six years of professional geologist work experience;
OR a Master’s degree in geology or a closely related field AND four years of professional geologist work experience;
OR a Ph.D. degree in geology or a closely related field AND three years of professional geologist work experience;
OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience equaling 10 years. - Experience in GIS involving digitizing, editing, and relational database design.
- Experience with subsurface reservoir characterization and/or modeling for geothermal resources, carbon sequestration, or hydrogen storage technologies.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in project or grant management.
- Demonstrated skill in public speaking and written communication.
