Sales and Management Intern

June - August 2022 • Kansas City, KS

What I liked

I enjoyed working on my internship project where we eventually proposed a solution to upper management.

What I wish was different

I spent most of the time like a normal store employee and I wish there was something else that differentiated me more like an intern.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's a lot of information and everyone knows it takes awhile to learn.

Management and Sales Intern

June - July 2023 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

Very hands-on and provides a lot of insight to how the business works. Project is valuable to learn how to research on a market (on a smaller scale) and how to present that information in a professional environment.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to learn more about different areas of the company. However, if you’re wanting to get into marketing and sales, I would highly recommend.

Advice

Great company culture and great people who are always willing to help; connect with the people you work with and stay in touch!

Management and Sales Intern

May - August 2022 • Marysville, OH

What I liked

The people were great, willing to listen to anything. Also the end of summer presentation event was fun even though it was in Detroit.

What I wish was different

Its an internship, not a job. I spent one half of it stacking boxes and learning nothing. Honestly a waste of time until I moved stores. Still just a job, nothing different than what employees in high school do.

Advice

It’s very hit or miss on a good experience or a bad one. I don’t think that the job was explained well enough, and they just wanted extra workers so they put “internship program” as the title.

Sales and Management Intern

June - August 2022 • Springfield, MO

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with. The environment is so welcoming, and everyone wants you to learn and succeed.

What I wish was different

I wish I had to do fewer of the training modules every week. I learned the most from my hands-on experiences in the store.

Advice

Be open to learning and willing to get your hands dirty! This internship can be fairly physical which was something I was a little caught off guard by. However, I learned to love it and it actually made the work more rewarding to me.

Finance Co-OP

May 2022 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

The managers are amazing here. They were so understanding and flexible regardless of life activies or classes. I was able to wear ear buds and listen to music without anyone hovering over me (which was common in past jobs).

What I wish was different

I was taught how to do tasks without being told the why. I think knowing why you are doing something is good information to have.

Sales Manager Intern

April 2022 • Kearney, NE

What I liked

I had a well rounded experience. I got to see a lot of the responsibilities of management and spend time with outside sales representatives calling on clients or going to product trainings.

What I wish was different

Advice

Sales and Management Intern

June - August 2022 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked the educational videos and lessons we received from our virtual training modules and while working in store. I learned a lot, more than I thought I would, about the paint industry and customer service. I really enjoyed the people that I worked with and the leadership management team that were in charge of us interns. The work was fun to learn and do and the foot traffic in the stores were not too busy so a good balance of learning and working.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was more corporate office based and explored more career paths than store management, up to district/higher management. Interns were mostly working in the retail stores for 4/5 days and went into the district office for the last day to work on our group project with the other interns.

Advice

Learn as much as you can and ask as many questions as you can. As well as meet as many people established in the company as you can and keep in touch, as Sherwin really emphasizes their family-like culture and constant internal promotions.

Sales and Management

June - August 2021 • Westbrook, ME

What I liked

I loved the relationships I built in the company and with the clientele. I loved how every week focused on different aspects of business in general and we were able to meet and connect with representatives from departments within the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship could have been less retail based and more sales representative based. Although relationships were made and built regardless, being able to leave a store environment would have been enjoyable.

Advice

My one piece of advice for students interested in this experience is to not be afraid to go outside your comfort zone. What may seem crazy could be the part of the job you love the most.

The company atmosphere was great! I felt welcomed and supported throughout my entire internship and learned a lot of new skills.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to learn more about the management side of things rather than just the retail side of the business! I would have loved to learn more about their operations and how decisions are made.
