Assurance Intern

June - August 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

The culture was what stood out to me the most. Everyone genuinely cared about my success there and was always willing to help any way they could with my questions. I was given real field world and treated as a member of the team.

What I wish was different

There wasn't anything I would really change about the experience, but if I had to select one thing it would be for the internship to start a little earlier.

Advice

Ask questions! You are not expected to know everything when you come in so they are expecting you to ask a lot of questions.

Tax Area Intern

June - August 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I really like the hands on experience, how everyone I worked with me and helped me understand the process of filing taxes in various jurisdiction and different types of business structures. Also enjoyed the company culture, the accounting firm really takes cares of its employees and is very considerate with their wellbeing. It is a very flexible work environment.

What I wish was different

Nothing to change.

Advice

I recommend to be engaging in every project you are assign and ask as many questions as they pop up in planning meetings as well as during the filing process.

Tax Intern

January - April 2020 • Flint, MI

What I liked

I really enjoyed working on engagements with other members as a team. It's very beneficial to learn from and interact with other employees how to do certain projects. I also enjoyed doing tax returns whether it was for individuals or businesses. Lastly, I could ask anyone questions that I had and not one person turned me down , they would always try to help me to the best of their ability even if they weren't working on the engagement.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed everything about my experience here at Plante Moran. I would say nothing because I didn't have any complaints.

Advice

Ask as many questions as possible and always take notes.

Tax Accountant Intern

June - August 2023 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I really liked all of the people I got to work with. Everyone was very kind when interacting and always helpful. Whenever I had a question about anything, I was able to ask it and get good and real answer without feeling any judgement. During the internship I learned a lot and it was great environment to grow and expand my knowledge. The internship was also set up in a way where I always had something to work on and if I asked for work, I would immediately get put on a project so I was never bored/not doing anything. With this, since it was a summer tax internship and not during busy season, the work never felt super stressful as well.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advise I would give would be to always ask questions when you have them. You are coming in with little to no knowledge of how to do what you are doing so you will be confused a lot. Asking questions when you feel stuck is the best way to learn and grow on the job. Asking questions is also a good way to spend time with staff, seniors, and managers, and by just observing their processes and how they problem solve is a great way to learn and understand what you are doing.

Assurance Intern

July - August 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Throughout this virtual internship experience, all Plante Moran staff I encountered were more than willing to help in any way necessary. It is difficult being an intern at a firm doing things you have never done before and to add being virtual on top of that changes a lot of things. However, Plante Moran did not skip a beat. From scheduling "coffee dates" with staff throughout the firm to having virtual social events with all other interns, this internship far exceeded my expectations! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the work I was assigned on engagements as well as the events put on by Human Resources. It was a great experience and I cannot recommend Plante Moran enough.

What I wish was different

While I could not have changed this myself due to the current world we are living in, I really wish I was able to have an internship experience in the office. Being able to get that opportunity would allow me to meet the other interns and create a bond that would hopefully carry on to when we start full-time. However, even though I was not able to meet many interns one-on-one, I was able to meet countless staff throughout the firm who contributed to my wonderful internship experience.

Advice

I would say to never fear asking questions. However, when asking questions, I suggest to complete the work assigned to you and then look through your compiled question list again to see if there is something you could have potentially forgot. After recognizing you cannot go any further, I would then ask your questions all at once. This allows you to problem solve on your own, but to also ask questions when necessary. It benefits everyone involved!

Audit & Assurance Intern

June - August 2023 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

The culture and people are an integral part of being at Plante Moran. I felt welcome from the beginning and everybody is very willing to help you or just sit down and talk. I was able to go out to a few different clients and even attend some networking events with senior managers and partners. They went out of their way to provide us with the best experience that they could.

What I wish was different

I primarily worked on benefit plans throughout the summer, but that is due to the nature of public accounting in the summer as it is not going to be as busy. I did have some down time, but most of the time I was kept pretty busy working on different clients.

Advice

Internships are an integral part of getting to know what your future career will be like and how you fit in with a company.

Tax Intern

June - August 2021 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I really enjoyed the learning and all the work that I did, but more than anything, I enjoyed the people that I worked with. It was so much fun to work with everyone on my team and get to know them better over the eight weeks. I did not realize how much information I could absorb in such a short amount of time, but Plante Moran and the people who work there were dedicated to helping me grow and learn throughout my time as an intern.

What I wish was different

I really do not have much that I wish was different. They did a great job keeping tabs on the pandemic and safely allowing us to come into the office.

Advice

If you are looking for a place to grow and develop while making friends with the people you work with, Plante Moran is the place for you. I cannot say enough good things about this firm and the people I got to work alongside.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to leverage your resources to increase your network and make the effort to learn from staff at the firm.

Tax Intern

June - August 2022 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Plante Moran is an amazing, welcoming place. At no point did I feel left out or made to feel like I wasn't cut out or smart enough. Anytime I had questions, I could go to anyone whether they were on my team or in my department. Everyone is always very excited to meet with the interns and it was very comforting

What I wish was different

I really just wish it was longer! I was so sad when it ended.

Advice

Don't be afraid to be yourself. It's exhausting to have to pretend to be someone you're not, and at Plante your individuality is celebrated! If you are the kid that has a GIF for every situation, continue to be that person! If you are known for bright colors or a trademark laugh, don't stifle it!
