Data Engineering Intern

May - September 2018 • Groton, CT

What I liked

I liked the networking events that they organized for interns across departments. I also really enjoyed working in a totally new field - pharmaceuticals. My team was very supportive and the on-the-job training Pfizer has you complete is useful in adding depth to one's resume. The project I worked on also had a big impact on the team that I worked with and I found it very rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish the Business Technology intern events were more broadly shared.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions. Go above and beyond with your training. Seek out employees to help you accomplish your project.

International Children’s Advisory Network member

January 2015 • Ave Maria, FL

What I liked

The iCAN organization has greatly enhanced my knowledge of the medical field and specifically the research revolving around children. Every year each team works on their own projects, from collecting data to building useful technology for those in need. During each summer, the teams join together at an international iCAN conference to share and gain knowledge and results with the other teams. Each team then takes that knowledge back home to their countries and states and towns to implement in their research for the next year. During these international conferences, the attendees are prívalaged to learn from expierienced people in each field of medicine from the country hosting the conference. This gives each attendee a fuller grasp of the world’s medical field and the different techniques which have been developed given the specific needs of the people.

What I wish was different

Advice

If given the opportunity to attend an international conference or any event with people more experienced than yourself, take advantage because the knowledge available out in the world is endless and people are more than willing to help spread the knowledge they have gained in order to assist in any way possible.

Communications and Project Associate

May - August 2019 • Andover, MA

What I liked

I loved being in a large company with a structured program for their interns, co-ops and summer workers. I felt like a part of a team, did meaningful work, presented in front of colleagues and enjoyed some large company benefits such as attending a Red Sox game! Additionally, I was able to shadow positions all around the site, exposing me to all the different aspects of a biotech company.

What I wish was different

I wish that my specific role catered more towards my biology major, as my work surrounded business and manufacturing, which I had less experience in.

Advice

Network and explore! Even though your internship may put you in one department, many companies embrace your curiosity and will let you shadow people all around the site.

Information Management Intern

June - August 2020 • Groton, CT

What I liked

The managers were very knowledgeable and provided great guidance throughout the process. All the employees were very intelligent, but very humble and patience with the interns like myself. This allowed me to grasp everything with ease and then make a true impact on the company in a matter of my my 10 week internship.

What I wish was different

With the virus I would've like more intern activities to engage all the interns to get to know each other, but it is also hard given the pandemic is still in place and virtual events will never be up to par as real in person interaction.

Advice

I would tell any student to ask as many questions as possible and meet as many people as possible everyone is kind, engaging, and definitely willing to talk with you and share their knowledge.
