Social Work Intern

Job Title: Social Work Intern 

Duration: A total of 10 weeks from Mid-May to July 2025, 20 hours per week

Pay: $20 per hour

Reports to: Director of Social Work

About Crossroads4Hope

Crossroads4Hope (CR4H) has been improving the lives of people with cancer and their loved ones for over 22 years. More recently, the organization has grown regionally and nationally in response to the increasing unmet needs of individuals affected by the disease. As THE safe space for people facing cancer to turn first to restore their whole being and family, we are on a mission to reduce the burden of cancer on all those affected, especially those living in vulnerable communities. Guided by social work principles, most notably social justice, we are experts in patient activation and delivering social and emotional interventions. We move individuals through the health crisis caused by cancer to become activated with the behaviors that enable them to take control of their health and care through access to resources and programs of support, education, well-being, and hope.

Job Responsibilities 

The Social Work Intern will support our social work department by: 

  • Observing the social work team perform daily functions, including performing individual intakes, assessments, and supportive counseling, facilitating support groups, and administrative duties, such as documentation and follow up. 
  • Completing new member intakes under supervision  
  • Observing individual and group support sessions to members with cancer and their loved ones 
  • Collaborating with and/or observing our Child Life Specialists to provide holistic care to members and their children 
  • Completing social needs assessments and connecting members to community resources needed during their cancer journey 
  • Advocating for members and providing guidance along their cancer journey 
  • Maintaining notes and documentation on sessions 
  • Attending weekly individual and group supervision with fellow mental health professionals to discuss and process cases and trends in the program. 
  • Participating in staff training for professional development and meetings 
  • Learning about different social work theories and practices, especially in relation to family and group practices, and grief and loss. 
  • Completing well-being checks on members 
  • Observing and participating in community outreach events with our public health outreach team as they deliver health education and cancer awareness, prevention, and access to screenings 
  • Observing and participating in wraparound programs, including mind-body, education and social connection programs, and with our program development department 

 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLSET 

  • Compassion, empathy and cultural humility for people facing cancer and life-altering circumstances. 
  • Strong analytical skills – experience with evaluating information and recommending action.  
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively exchange information with others.  
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.  
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.  
  • Spanish Speaker, preferred.  
  • Desired Major(s) - Social Sciences - Social Work
